Charlamagne tha God is weighing in on the backlash against rapper Jack Harlow’s latest album, after he made some surprising remarks about the musical direction of the project.
During a new episode of The Breakfast Club, Charlamagne did not agree with Harlow’s assessment that the new project is “Blacker” than his previous offerings.
“Let me tell you something, I like Jack Harlow,” Charlamagne said on air. “He’s a nice guy. But I told y’all this album made him whiter.”
The radio host was reacting in part to Harlow’s remark during a separate interview, where the rapper said, “I got Blacker,” while describing his musical evolution.
Charlamagne took issue with the phrasing and questioned how the comment came across.
“You got to be really white to say that this music made you Blacker,” he said.
He also weighed in on the album itself, suggesting it has not connected the way Harlow may have hoped.
“If it was that dope, people would accept it,” Charlamagne added.
According to the radio host, the conversation around the album has become part of its reception.
Harlow has not publicly responded to the backlash. The album has been widely panned by listeners.
