The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Nigerian Bar Association Anti-Corruption Committee (NBA-ACC) to strengthen the fight against corruption and uphold the rule of law in Nigeria.
The agreement was signed on Thursday, January 29, 2026, at the ICPC headquarters in Abuja.
A second MoU was also signed between the NBA-ACC and the Anti-Corruption Academy of Nigeria (ACAN), the training and research arm of the ICPC, to enhance institutional and human capacity.
Speaking at the event, ICPC Chairman, Dr. Musa Adamu Aliyu, SAN, said the partnership was a deliberate effort to confront corruption through collective action.
“Corruption thrives where institutions work in isolation, but integrity flourishes where partnerships are forged,” he said.
Dr. Aliyu described the agreement as a strategic alliance built on professionalism, accountability, and service to the Nigerian people.
He said the collaboration would combine enforcement, prevention, capacity building, and public education to achieve sustainable results.
The ICPC boss also stressed the importance of ACAN in building long-term integrity through education, research, and skills development.
Chairman of the NBA Anti-Corruption Committee, Prof. Babafemi A. Badejo, said the MoU reflected the determination of stakeholders to build strong institutions.
He noted that the partnership would promote ethical standards, raise public awareness, and support policy reforms.
“The agreement with ACAN will deepen our work through structured training, joint research, and certificate programmes,” Badejo said.
Reacting to the development, ICPC spokesperson, J. Okor Odey, said the partnership would strengthen governance.
“This collaboration will advance transparency, accountability, and professionalism within the legal system and beyond,” Odey stated.
