Suspected cultists kill transport worker in Lagos
PUNCH Metro gathered that the incident happened on Monday when the deceased victim paid a visit to her mother-in-law’s house in the community.
Our correspondent learnt that the assailants believed to be members of the Aiye confraternity had trailed Kotun to the community on Monday evening.
They were said to have arrived and parked their vehicle discreetly near the house while waiting for him to step out.
Speaking with PUNCH Metro on Thursday, a resident in the area, who refused to mention his name for security reasons, said Kotun was shot multiple times by the cultists shortly after he stepped out with his wife.
The resident said, “After about five minutes, he asked his wife to help him bring something from the room. Barely a minute after she went inside, some men in a car with tinted glasses fired shots at him. He was shot repeatedly before he dropped dead on the spot.”
The Police Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin, could not be reached for comments as several calls made to his mobile phone were not answered.
Also, a text message sent to him had yet to be replied as of the time this report was filed.
The incident was said to have created panic in the community as residents expressed fear over a possible renewed cult clash in the community.
The family of the deceased was said to have been thrown into mourning following the tragic incident.
The resident further revealed that Kotun’s killers had come to carry out a reprisal on him.
He said, “We believed the killers came for revenge because as soon as he was buried the following day, his colleagues started to lament his death. They said the killers were members of a rival cult group that came into their territory from the General Paint area of the community.”
