APC and PDP senators disagreed over politicization of the Social Investment Programme

At the opening of the plenary session on Tuesday in the newly restored sacred chamber, some high-ranking senators got into a heated argument over seating arrangements.

The Senate resumed plenary on Tuesday following a six-week break in the freshly restored sacred chamber, which opened more than two years after renovation began.

Imran Muhammad, who tweeted the video as #Imranmuhdz on his X page on Tuesday, shows Senator Danjuma Goje, representing Gombe Central, and Senator Sahabi Yau, representing Zamfara North, expressing their discontent with the back seats allotted to them.

Both senators protested to the Majority Leader, Senator Opeyemi Bamidele, but the debate became so heated that a person in the background had to ask for a “point of order” but was disregarded.

Visible Construction Company Nigeria Limited began refurbishment work on the hallowed chambers in July 2022, and the Senate and House of Representatives moved to temporary chambers in September 2022.
