Passengers fall into lagoon in Third Mainland Bridge accident

Two unidentified passengers were thrown into the lagoon, and many others were injured, during an accident on Lagos State’s Third Mainland Bridge on Wednesday.

A video posted on Sabi Radio’s Instagram account on Wednesday shows men from the Nigerian Marine Police carrying out a rescue mission for two casualties.

Adeniyi Adele was involved in an accident with an LT 18-seater with the registration number FKJ 872 YA on Lagos Island.

Mr. Ibrahim Farinloye, Lagos Territorial Coordinator of the National Emergency Management Agency, stated in a statement that the vehicle’s driver drove off the road and collided with the bridge railings while driving at high speeds.

He further alleged that the impact forced the two passengers off the bus and into the Lagos lagoon.

“The victims, an adult male and female, are being searched by the Marine Police.

“The injured have been evacuated to a nearby hospital,” he said.
