Uchechi Kanu, the wife of Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, has praised Senator Ifeanyi Ubah, who represents Anambra South Senatorial District, for allowing her to visit her husband at the Department of State Services facility in Abuja.

Mrs. Kanu revealed during a live session on Radio Biafra on Sunday that she visited her husband on April 16, despite the DSS authorities’ repeated denials.

Kanu has been imprisoned at the DSS detention facility since his rendition from Kenya in 2021, after being rearrested for allegedly jumping bail in 2017 when he fled the country.

Mrs. Kanu, who addressed some Igbo people living in the United Kingdom and other areas of the world, claimed she had been denied access to her husband three times before approaching Senator Ubah, who quickly enabled her visit.

She stated that she is aware that many Igbo elite are truly worried about her husband’s wrongful arrest and are working secretly to help him recover his freedom.

She said, “Let me use this opportunity to thank Senator Ifeanyi Ubah, who moved swiftly to facilitate my visit to my husband in DSS custody. I thank you, sir.

“I thank other Igbo politicians, governors, and political office holders who are concerned about the plight of my husband. A lot of these elites are concerned about the unlawful detention of my husband and are working silently to secure a roundtable discussion for his release. I’m thankful to them.”

Ubah also stated to the press on Monday that he enabled Mrs. Kanu’s visit to her husband after learning that she was having difficulty visiting him in custody.

He said, “Yes, she was in Nigeria, and she approached me and told me that she needed to visit her husband but was finding it difficult, so I immediately intervened. I visited her husband with her in the company of Barr. Ejiofor. She met with her husband in the DSS facility on April 16.”
