Wuzaipa Salisu, a herdsman, allegedly severed the hand of a farmer, Bitrus Chawai, in Damakasuwa, Kauru Local Government Area, Kaduna State.

The victim was claimed to have been travelling home in preparation for this year’s farming when the event occurred.

The victim’s younger brother, Barnabas, confirmed the event to reporters on Wednesday.

According to him, the victim (Bitrus), a former NULGE Chairman in the Kauru Local Government Area and current state trustee, went to his home on Sunday to clear the field for this year’s farming.

“My elder brother went to his farm, which is not more than 200km from our family house, and discovered that cows entered one of his farms and ate beans crops. He approached the herdsman, only to be attacked.

“Their target was to machete his head, but he used his hand to shield his head. As a result, his arm was chopped off,” he said.

Barnabas told our correspondent that the herdsman had done something similar before in the village.

He claimed two people were similarly attacked last year.

“His father personally took him to the Divisional Police Station in Damakasuwa, Kauru Local Government Area.

“As we speak, my brother has been bleeding profusely since yesterday (Tuesday); we have been referred to another hospital in Kaduna,” Barnabas added.

ASP Mansir Hassan, a spokeswoman for the state police command, did not return our correspondent’s calls or text messages.
