Gunmen kidnap 25 church members in Ondo

A group of gunmen believed to be kidnappers reportedly kidnapped about 25 members of the Christ Apostolic Church (CAC) in Akure, the state capital, on Friday afternoon.

The victims were claimed to be travelling to Ifon, in the state‘s Ose local government area, for a burial ceremony when they were stopped by the alleged kidnappers, who took them away.

According to a source, the victims were members of the CAC’s Oke Igan branch in Akure who were travelling with the church van.

The source who confirmed that two members of her family were among the church members taken, there has been no word from the victims.

She explained that they were apparently headed to a program in the Ose council area of the state.

She added that the victims were taken captive at approximately 3 p.m. on Friday, with some of the victims left by the side of the road and others being transported by the choir’s vehicle.

Funmi Odunlami, a spokesperson for the State Police, confirmed the occurrence and stated that the command was notified of the situation on Friday afternoon.

She claimed that troops from the command moved quickly to stop the kidnappers, and that investigators from the command have been tracking them down.
