Former Super Eagles captain Joseph Yobo has praised the ongoing infrastructure development in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), describing it as a testament to the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Tinubu’s administration.
Yobo spoke to journalists on the sidelines of the launch of the Abuja City Walk, where he commended the pace of development across the nation’s capital.
He lauded the Minister of the FCT, Nyesom Wike, for what he described as an infrastructure-driven approach to governance, saying the minister has set a high standard for public service delivery.
According to Yobo, one of Nigeria’s biggest governance challenges has been implementation, but the FCT administration has demonstrated that tangible progress is possible through effective leadership.
“Coming to the FCT and seeing what the Minister has achieved is highly commendable and worthy of emulation. He has raised the bar for governance by doing exactly what is required—providing infrastructure and delivering development to the people,” he said.
The former international made the remarks as the FCT Administration continues commissioning roads and other public infrastructure across the territory.
He described the projects as landmark developments, noting that they reflect Wike’s longstanding commitment to infrastructure development, which he also demonstrated during his tenure as Rivers State governor.
Yobo said the current commissioning exercise represents only the first phase of a broader infrastructure programme, with more projects expected before the end of the year.
He also expressed optimism about sports development in the FCT, citing Wike’s record of investing in sports infrastructure and supporting athletes.
According to him, the minister’s passion for sports gives confidence that the sector will receive greater attention in the capital.
“He is exactly the kind of leader who gets things done in this sector. I am confident he will put something excellent in place for sports development in the FCT,” Yobo said.
