US forces on Sunday, July 12, hit a submarine and a ship maintenance facility in Iran using one-way attack surface drones. The Central Command (CENTCOM) said that the strikes reduced Iran’s operational capability. The military also released a video of the combat operation, describing it as the first use of suicide sea drones.
The footage, released by the US military on Monday, July 13, captures the combat operation attacking a submarine and a ship maintenance facility at Iran’s Bandar Abbas Naval Base. “Yesterday, using multiple one-way attack surface drones, CENTCOM forces successfully struck a submarine and ship maintenance facility in Iran. Three Corsair unmanned surface vessels hit the port at Bandar Abbas Naval Base, marking the first time American forces have employed sea drones in combat operations. Last night’s strikes degraded Iran’s ability to continue attacking commercial shipping,” CENTCOM wrote in a post on X.

How did the US strike Iranian facilities?
The video starts with high-altitude surveillance visuals showing three unmanned surface vessels speeding across the water towards Iran’s naval docks. Red circles identify each drone as it nears the target area.
The footage then switches to onboard camera visuals from one of the ships, showing it racing fast across open water before getting close to piers, cranes, and naval infrastructure in what is described as a one-way attack combat operation. Shortly after, huge blasts engulf the targeted Iranian facilities, sending thick plumes of smoke into the air as the strike concludes.
