Troops of Sector 7, Operation ENDURING PEACE, have arrested six suspected terrorists’ logistics suppliers and recovered seven firearms during a stop-and-search operation in Zangon Kataf Local Government Area of Kaduna State.
The operation, which took place on Monday at the Samaru checkpoint in Samaru Village, Zonkwa District, formed part of ongoing military efforts to disrupt the activities of criminal elements and deny terrorists freedom of movement within the Joint Operations Area.
The development was disclosed in a statement issued by the Media Information Officer of the Joint Task Force, Operation ENDURING PEACE, Captain Chinonso Polycarp Oteh.
According to the statement, the suspects were intercepted while travelling in an ash-coloured Mercedes-Benz vehicle with registration number EDO GUE-722-LV from Jos, Plateau State, to Niger State.
Oteh said preliminary interrogation indicated that the suspects admitted travelling from Jos to Niger State.
He added that troops recovered three AK-47 rifles, four sub-machine guns and the Mercedes-Benz vehicle used by the suspects.
The military spokesman disclosed that one of the suspects attempted to escape during the operation but was immediately apprehended.
”Additionally, during the encounter one of the suspects attempted to flee and was immediately immobilized. He is currently stable and cooperating with the ongoing investigation,” the statement said.
He noted that the suspects and recovered weapons had been taken into custody for detailed interrogation and further investigation.
The Joint Task Force expressed appreciation to members of the public for their continued cooperation and urged residents to remain vigilant by promptly reporting suspicious persons and activities to security agencies.
