Turkish Süper Lig club Trabzonspor are taking Saudi Pro League side Al-Ahli to FIFA over the transfer of Paul Onuachu, Soccernet.ng reports.
Onuachu’s future has been a major concern for Trabzonspor this summer. He was their best player last season, contributing 17 goals and four assists in 25 appearances across all competitions.
If not for him, the Black Sea Storm probably would not have finished in the top three or won the Turkish Cup.
Onuachu’s goalscoring spree ensured he was a contender for the top-scorer title. If not for his late-season lull, he could have easily taken the prize home.
In the meantime, the Super Eagles star’s performances have attracted interest from several clubs in Europe and beyond.
Saudi Pro League club Al-Ahli appears very interested in Onuachu as they look to add quality to their squad. Reports suggest they are willing to quadruple his salary to land him.
But it appears that Trabzonspor is unhappy with the way Al-Ahli has handled the situation.
Why Have Trabzonspor Dragged Al Ahli to FIFA?
According to Puskas Sports, Trabzonspor has filed a complaint with FIFA against Al-Ahli for contacting Paul Onuachu to make an offer without the club’s consent.
Since he still has two years remaining on his contract, Al-Ahli would only be permitted to negotiate with Onuachu during the final six months of his deal. Trabzonspor alleges that the Saudi club has flouted these regulations.
According to previous reports, Al-Ahli is willing to pay Onuachu four times what he currently earns. This would be the biggest paycheck of his career if the move materializes.
Meanwhile, Trabzonspor is actually willing to sell Onuachu, but they will only accept a fee in the region of €10–15 million.
Additionally, the Super Eagles star would have to formally request the transfer himself—an action he has yet to take.
If FIFA decides to punish Al-Ahli, they will likely issue a fine. In the meantime, Onuachu will be hoping his future is sorted soon.
