Anambra State Governor, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo, has commended President Bola Tinubu for approving the design and procurement of two major highway projects aimed at improving road infrastructure and connectivity across the South-East.
Soludo disclosed the development in a statement on Thursday via his X account.
According to the governor, the approved projects are the dualisation of the 108-kilometre Otuocha–Anam–Abaji road linking Anambra State to Kogi State and the 150-kilometre Oba–Nnewi–Uga–Ihube (Okigwe Junction) road, which connects Anambra and Imo states to the Enugu–Port Harcourt Expressway through Abia State.
He said the approvals followed his meeting with President Tinubu on July 1, after which the Minister of Works, David Umahi, requested details of the proposed road projects.
Soludo explained that he forwarded the details on July 3 and was informed on July 15 that the President had approved both roads for design and procurement.
The governor said the highways as transformative projects that would serve as critical transport corridors connecting the South-East, South-South and North-Central regions, while improving the movement of people and goods.
He praised President Tinubu for his deliberate commitment to rebuilding infrastructure in the South-East, saying the projects would contribute to the region’s economic growth and long-term development.
Soludo also commended the Minister of Works, David Umahi, for his efforts in advancing critical road infrastructure projects across the country.
He expressed optimism that the projects would accelerate development, improve interstate connectivity and deliver lasting economic benefits to communities across the affected regions.
