Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has presented N3.1 billion in compensation to 331 property owners whose lands and buildings were acquired for major infrastructure projects across the state.
Sanwo-Olu disclosed this in a statement shared on his official X handle on Monday, July 20, saying the payment was part of efforts to ensure fairness and accountability in the execution of public projects.
The governor said the affected properties were located in Badagry, Epe, Ikorodu, Igbogbo and Ogba, where infrastructure developments are being implemented.
According to him, while the projects are expected to improve the lives of millions of Lagos residents, the government must also consider the impact on individuals whose properties were affected.

“As we build the roads and public infrastructure Lagos needs, we must also do right by the people whose lives are directly affected,” Sanwo-Olu said.
He explained that all claims were subjected to verification processes to ensure that only legitimate property owners received compensation.
“Every claim was carefully verified through due process to ensure the rightful owners received what they were entitled to,” the governor stated.
Sanwo-Olu acknowledged the personal sacrifices made by property owners, noting that behind every affected property were families, homes and businesses.
“Behind every property is a family, a home or a business. While these projects will benefit millions of Lagosians, I do not take the sacrifice of those who made them possible for granted,” he added.
The governor reiterated his administration’s commitment to fairness and transparency in governance, describing the compensation exercise as part of its promise to residents.
“We made a promise to govern with fairness and accountability. Today was another opportunity to keep that promise,” Sanwo-Olu said.
