SECURITY operatives have arrested Adeniyi Adeyemi, who allegedly presented himself as the Director-General of the purported Presidential Foreign Investment Promotion Council (PFIPC), following a bench warrant issued by the Federal High Court in Abuja.
Adeyemi was reportedly arrested on Tuesday at his hideout in Osun State by operatives of the Force Intelligence Department’s Intelligence Response Team (FID/IRT).
The Nigeria Police Force confirmed the arrest through its spokesperson.
The arrest came shortly after Justice Mohammed Umar issued a bench warrant against Adeyemi for failing to appear in court for his arraignment.
Sources said the suspect would be transported to the Force Headquarters in Abuja for further legal proceedings.
During Tuesday’s proceedings, Adeyemi’s counsel, Genesis Francis, informed the court that he was unable to persuade his client to attend the hearing.
According to the lawyer, the defendant cited concerns over his safety in an open letter addressed to President Bola Tinubu, claiming that the matter had attracted widespread public attention.
The prosecuting counsel, Wisdom Madaki, opposed the explanation and argued that the case had been repeatedly delayed due to the defendant’s persistent absence from court.
Madaki urged the court to invoke Section 394 of the Administration of Criminal Justice Act (ACJA) by issuing a warrant for the defendant’s arrest.
In granting the application, Justice Umar noted that the charges against Adeyemi were filed on Nov. 27, 2025, while proceedings commenced on Dec. 4, 2025.
The case was subsequently adjourned pending the production of the defendant before the court.
Realnews Magazine reports that the Federal Government had earlier declared the Presidential Foreign Investment Promotion Council (PFIPC) a fictitious organisation with no legal backing or affiliation to the Presidency.
The Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (OSGF) had warned the public against dealing with the organisation after it emerged that it had allegedly issued forged appointment letters, certificates and other official documents bearing the names and insignia of the Presidency.
The government also distanced President Bola Tinubu and the Presidency from the activities of the group, describing it as an elaborate impersonation scheme designed to mislead investors, government agencies and members of the public.
Following investigations by security agencies, the Federal Government instituted criminal proceedings against Adeyemi on allegations bordering on forgery, impersonation, obtaining by false pretence and unlawfully presenting himself as the head of a non-existent presidential agency.
The charges followed a directive by President Tinubu ordering the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC), the Nigeria Police Force and other relevant security agencies to investigate the activities of the alleged syndicate behind the fake council and bring those responsible to justice.
The government has repeatedly urged Nigerians and the international business community to verify the authenticity of any organisation claiming affiliation with the Presidency through official government channels before entering into any transactions.
