The Ondo State Police Command has arrested a man, Amos Paul, of Unaun, Upenme in Owo Local Government Area, for allegedly burning his 10-year-old daughter with a hot iron.
Amos allegedly used a heated laundry iron to burn the private part of his daughter for bedwetting.
DSP Abayomi Jimoh, the spokesperson for the command, made this known in a statement on Friday in Akure.
According to the command’s spokesperson, the incident was reported to the Police on Thursday.
He said that the victim sustained severe injuries and was taken to the Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Owo, for medical treatment.
“Upon receipt of the information, detectives from ‘A’ Division, Owo, swiftly mobilised to the scene, arrested the suspect and took him into custody.
“The case is being transferred to the Gender Unit for discreet investigation and further necessary action in line with established procedures,” he said.
Jimoh urged members of the public to promptly report cases of child abuse, domestic violence and other related offences to the nearest police station.
He assured that the command would continue to ensure that offenders were brought to justice.
The police spokesperson reiterated the command’s unwavering commitment to protecting children and other vulnerable members of society from all forms of abuse, violence and exploitation.
