The Bauchi State Police Command has apprehended a 40-year-old man, Mustapha Yahaya, over allegations that he impersonated an operative of the Department of State Services (DSS).
The suspect, who resides on Ran Road, Bauchi, was picked up in the early hours of Monday, July 27, 2026, during a routine patrol carried out by operatives of the Command’s Violent Crimes Response Unit (VCRU) along Bayan Gari in Bauchi metropolis.
Police said that during questioning, Yahaya claimed to be a DSS personnel attached to the agency’s Bauchi State Command, but further investigation established that the claim was untrue and that he had no link to the DSS.
The Command said the suspect remains in custody and is undergoing further interrogation, adding that he would be arraigned in court once investigations are concluded.
Reacting to the development, the Commissioner of Police, CP Sani-Omolori Aliyu, urged members of the public to be vigilant and avoid falling prey to individuals falsely posing as security operatives, advising residents to always request proper identification from anyone claiming to work with security agencies.
He reiterated the Command’s resolve to rid the state of criminal elements and safeguard the lives and property of residents.
The arrest is the third impersonation-related case recorded by the Bauchi State Police Command within one week, highlighting the Command’s sustained crackdown on individuals falsely parading themselves as security personnel.
