Officials of the Amotekun Corps have denied the 2026 African Action Congress (AAC) Osun governorship candidate, Olajide Esan, access to inspect the damaged section of the Lameco Flyover Bridge.
In the wake of a viral video showing a cracked section of the bridge following a heavy rainfall, Esan, on Friday, paid a visit to the flyover bridge to inspect the damage.
Meanwhile, prior to his arrival, the bridge had been cordoned off by the Amotekun Corps with personnel deployed to the bridge.
Recounting his ordeal in a statement issued on his official X handle, Esan narrated how he was confronted and obstructed by the Amotekun operatives despite staying behind the barricade.
Video attached to the post showed the Amotekun officials blocking the AAC governorship candidate from advancing into the cordoned area.
A senior official of the corps attached to the team shoved Esan away from the flyover bridge as he challenged the gubernatorial candidate as well as his deputy.
‘Today, during my inspection of the Lameco Flyover in Osogbo, I was confronted and physically obstructed by operatives of the Osun State Security Network Agency (Amotekun Corps).
‘I visited the site to assess the reported structural defect because I believe every kobo of taxpayers’ money must be accounted for, and public infrastructure should meet the highest engineering standards.
‘Even though I remained behind the safety barricade, I was prevented from moving closer to observe the bridge. I questioned why I was being pushed despite complying with the restrictions.’ He said.
Esan further recalled his previous charge to the state government on the need to ensure strict adherence to engineering standards in the construction of the project.
‘Before this project was completed, I had repeatedly called on the Osun State Government to ensure strict adherence to engineering standards.
‘The concerns being raised today reinforce the need for transparency, accountability, and independent scrutiny of public projects.’ He said.
Esan condemned the conduct of the Amotekun officials, stressing that no citizens should be intimidated for demanding accountability.
‘My running mate, Bello Muideen Yekeen, also observed what appeared to be repair activities at the site while members of the public were denied access.
‘No citizen should be intimidated for demanding accountability. Asking questions about the quality of public infrastructure is not a crime it is a civic responsibility.
‘I remain committed to speaking truth to power and standing up for the people of Osun State. We deserve quality infrastructure, prudent use of public funds, and a government that welcomes accountability rather than suppressing it.’ He said.
