Before the 2027 presidential election, women in Ondo State have put their support behind President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, citing his administration’s social welfare programs, infrastructure improvements, and economic changes as justifications for a second term.
In Akure, the state capital, the ladies, who represented all 18 local government districts in the state, assembled and confirmed that Tinubu is eligible for reelection due to his performance in office.
Additionally, they pledged to support the Tinubu-Shettima ticket with more than a million votes in the upcoming general election.
Speaking at the event, the Director of Women for Grassroots Movement for Tinubu (GMT) in Ondo State, Olamide Falana, explained that the group had carried out wide-ranging grassroots mobilisation throughout the state, noting that political success is ultimately determined at the local level.
She stressed that women continue to play a central role in campaign efforts and had committed to rallying support for the ruling party’s presidential candidate in communities across the state.
She noted that women in the state were pleased with what the Tinubu administration had achieved and wanted to see the momentum sustained, adding that the group would work hard to ensure his re-election in 2027.
Falana further revealed that the group had built structures across the state’s 203 wards, with a presence in over 1,500 polling units.
She said their mobilisation efforts would extend to every part of the state, promising door-to-door engagement, outreach to riverine communities and visits to markets to build strong backing for the president.
Also speaking, the Director-General of GMT in Ondo State, Saka Yusuf Ogunleye, described the endorsement as recognition of Tinubu’s achievements over the past two years and, at the same time, a show of support for his bid for re-election.
He said the president’s continued stay in office was warranted given the reciprocal nature of good governance and public support, pointing to what has already been accomplished as justification for backing a second term.
