THE Ogun House of Assembly on Tuesday passed three bills, including the Vehicle Inspection Services (Establishment) Bill, 2026.
The other bills are the Ogun State Judicial Institute Bill, 2026, and the Ogun State Rural Access Roads Agency (Amendment) Bill, 2026.
The bills were passed during plenary presided over by the Speaker, Mr Oludaisi Elemide, at the Assembly Complex, Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta.
The passage followed the presentation and consideration of reports by the relevant House Committees.
The Chairman, House Committee on Transportation, Mr Wasiu Ayodele (APC-Abeokuta South II), presented the report on the Vehicle Inspection Services Bill.
The Chairman, House Committee on Justice, Ethics and Public Petitions, Mr Oluseun Adesanya (APC-Ijebu North East), presented the report on the Ogun State Judicial Institute Bill.
Also, the Chairman, House Committee on Water Resources, Energy and Rural Development, Mr Olakunle Sobukanla (APC-Ikenne), presented the report on the Rural Access Roads Agency (Amendment) Bill.
The House adopted the committee’s report following motions moved and seconded by lawmakers before approving them through a voice vote.
The bills were thereafter considered and adopted clause-by-clause by the committee of the whole House.
The Clerk and Head of Legislative Service, Mr Sakiru Adebakin, conducted the third reading of the bills.
Elemide directed that clean copies of the bills be forwarded to Gov. Dapo Abiodun for assent.
Also at plenary, the Assembly paid tribute to the late 46th Onipokia of Ipokia, Oba Yisa Olusola Olaniyan, describing his death as a great loss to Ipokia and Ogun state.
The lawmakers observed a minute’s silence in honour of the monarch following a motion moved by Mr Bisi Oyedele (APC-Ipokia/Idiroko).
Oyedele said the traditional ruler died after a brief illness at the age of 55.
Earlier, a former Speaker of the Assembly and member representing Ifo I State Constituency, Mr Olakunle Oluomo (APC), presented two petitions before the House.
The petitions sought the Assembly’s intervention over an alleged breach of peace in a community in his constituency and alleged encroachment on agricultural land at Coker Farm Settlement in Ifo Local Government Area.
The Speaker however, referred the petitions to the appropriate House committees for further legislative action. (NAN)
