Nigerian golfers from the United Kingdom, Nigeria, the United States, Europe and other parts of the world gathered at Carden Park in Chester for the Nigeria-UK Golfing Association’s 2026 International Event.
The four-day programme, held from 20 to 23 July, combined competitive golf with networking, friendship and support for the development of the sport.
The event attracted players, guests, business leaders and public figures with a shared interest in golf, charitable work and community development.
The association’s activities are guided by its motto, “Friendship, Integrity and Charity.” It also organises regular competitions at different courses, giving members opportunities to play, build relationships and support the growth of golf.
The 2026 international event continued that tradition by creating a platform for golfers from different countries and professional backgrounds to compete and establish new connections. The competition has been held for more than two decades and aims to promote friendship, sportsmanship and unity through golf.

NUGA Officials Lead Organisation
The event was organised under the leadership of NUGA Captain Fred Adegeye, alongside Charles Ajani, chairman of the International Event Committee, and other members of the association.
Among the notable figures at the event was former Kogi State governor Captain Idris Ichalla Wada, an experienced pilot and golfer who governed the state from 2012 to 2016.
Other guests included Olumide Osunsina, the Oba-elect of Ifo, and NUGA patron Bashorun Fatai Idowu Arobieke.
Chief Arobieke praised the organisers for delivering a successful international gathering and bringing Nigerian golfers together in the United Kingdom.
The tournament also attracted players connected with several leading Nigerian golf clubs, including Ikeja Golf Club, Ibom Golf Club, Ikoyi Club and the IBB International Golf and Country Club in Abuja.
Nwamadu Wins Day One Individual Title
NUGA won the Day One Team Stableford contest with 1,273 points, defeating the opposing team, which recorded 1,175 points. Each side featured 43 players.
The individual Stableford competition produced a close finish, with Chike Nwamadu, Collins Mezeh and K. K. Yusuf each scoring 39 points.
Nwamadu was declared the winner on countback, while Mezeh finished as runner-up and Yusuf took third place. Countback is used to separate golfers who finish with the same score by comparing their performances over selected closing holes.
Nanwar was named the best female player after recording 38 points, while Deji Akintola won the Best Veteran category with 37 points.
In the nearest-the-pin contests, Grace Ihonvbere won the women’s category, while M. I. Okoro claimed the men’s prize.
Bisola Obileye secured the women’s longest-drive award, with Alex Oboh winning the men’s category.
Muyiwa Alabi produced the best overall gross score on Day One after completing his round with a score of 76.
The results reflected the competitive standard of the tournament, while the wider programme gave participants an opportunity to renew friendships and strengthen links between Nigerian golfers at home and abroad.
