Comerade. Ekene Amu, Chairman of Non-Academic Staff Union of Educational and Associated Institution (NASU) at University of Nigeria Nsukka (UNN) has commended management of the university for introducing tricycle transport scheme in Nsukka campus.
Amu made the commendation in Nsukka on Tuesday in an interview with our Correspondent while speaking on the commencement of tricycle transport operation on Monday July 6.
He said the tricycle transport would ease the difficulties some staff and students of UNN have been facing since the management restricted or banned motorcycles from entering inside the university.
“UNN management has directed that with effect from June 29 staff, students and visitors coming to the university with motorcycles should park them outside the gates or risk the motorcycle being impounded by UNN Security Department.
” Because of this, staff, students and visitors now park their motorcycles at gates then wait for UNN shuttle bus whó will collect N400 from them or trek to their destinations inside the university,”he said.
The Chairman said it was a great relief that the management has introduced electric tricycles powered by solar that would be carrying people from gates inside the university at the cost of N100.
“This tricycle that started operation on Monday will be a great relief to staff, students and visitors coming inside UNN campus.
“I commend the management for this good initiative that will end difficulties those that parked their motorcycles at the gates have been facing,” he said.

Meanwhile, some members of the university community have commended the university management for introducing tricycle transport.
A staff of the university who identified herself as Mrs Judith Nnadi said the management did well by introducing tricycle that would be carrying people from gates inside UNN campus at the rate of N100.
Nnadi however said that the management could have purchased tricycles that used petrol instead of the ones powered by solar, expressing fear that the tricycles movements might be affected during rainy season.
Dennis Ubong, a Student from Department of Computer Science commended the UNN management for introducing the tricycle transport at cheap fare of N100 from the gates inside the campus.
“Some of us living around first or second gate of UNN can now trek to the gate and enter the tricycle to our departments at cheap price of N100.
“Till now I do not understand reason why UNN shuttle bus drivers collect N400 from one who entered the bus at UNN first gate and collect the same N400 from people they loaded at Nsukka town UNN shuttle park.
“I commend the management immensely for introducing this tricycle transport service at a cheap price of N100 from gate to anywhere inside campus” he said.
