The lscheduled WBO Africa Cruiserweight title fight between Nigerian contender Lekan ‘The Engine’ Muibi and champion Godday Appah has been postponed after the title holder reportedly suffered an injury.
The bout was originally fixed for July 31 in Lagos under Balmoral Promotions and was expected to be broadcast live on DAZN.
Quadriga Sports Management, which manages the unbeaten Muibi, confirmed the postponement in a statement issued on Tuesday.
The company said organisers informed it that Appah sustained an injury during training, making him unavailable for the championship contest.
Quadriga wished the champion a speedy and complete recovery, expressing optimism that the highly anticipated fight would be rearranged as soon as possible.
“We understand that injuries are part of this sport and we wish him a speedy and full recovery,” the management company said.
It added: “We hope that upon his return, he will not shy away from the open challenge we issued him.”
The company also expressed confidence that Appah would remain committed to ensuring the title contest takes place at the earliest available opportunity.
Quadriga praised Dr Ezekiel Adamu and Balmoral Promotions for organising what it described as one of Nigeria’s most eagerly awaited boxing contests.
The management noted that significant financial and logistical resources had already been invested in Muibi’s preparations for the championship bout.
“However, we recognise that this is simply a slight delay caused by force majeure,” it said.
It assured supporters that Muibi would remain in peak condition while awaiting confirmation of a new fight date.
“Quadriga Sports Management will ensure that Lekan ‘The Engine’ Muibi is primed and ready to go once a new date is announced,” it stated.
The company maintained that the unbeaten boxer remained fully prepared to face any opponent whenever the contest is rescheduled.
“Fans can rest assured that ‘The Engine’ is firing on all cylinders and is more than capable of meeting any opposition whenever and wherever,” the company added.
Quadriga also promised supporters they would see Muibi back in the ring at the earliest opportunity in spite of the unexpected postponement.
The management thanked boxing enthusiasts for their continued support, describing the postponement as a temporary setback in Muibi’s pursuit of greater honours and championship success. (NAN)
