The Lagos State Judiciary has scheduled its 2026 annual long vacation to commence on July 20 and end on Sept. 11.
This is contained in a notice issued by the Chief Judge of Lagos State, Justice Kazeem Alogba, and signed by the Chief Registrar, Mr Tajudeen Elias.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the notice, dated June 30, was made available to newsmen on Monday.
The notice stated that the vacation was approved pursuant to Order 49 Rule 4(d) of the High Court of Lagos State (Civil Procedure) Rules, 2019.
It added that designated vacation judges had been assigned to sit across the state’s judicial divisions to attend to urgent civil matters during the period.
The notice stated that the judicial divisions covered were Ikeja, Lagos, Badagry, Epe, Ikorodu, Surulere/Yaba and Eti-Osa.
It added that judges had been assigned to sit on scheduled dates throughout the vacation.
The notice, however, clarified that the criminal division of the court would continue to sit throughout the vacation.
It further stated that a vacation judge might hear urgent criminal cases assigned by the chief judge.
The notice stated that any urgent civil matter might be heard by a vacation judge, except on Sundays and public holidays.
It advised parties seeking urgent hearings during the vacation to make applications by summons in chambers before the vacation judge or the judge presiding over the substantive case.
It stated that the 2026/2027 legal year would commence on Sept. 14, while the new legal year service would hold on Sept. 21. (NAN)(www.nannews.ng)
