A Nigerian woman who is more than 40 years old has gone viral on social media after she boldly said she does not want to get married. In a video that started spreading on X (formerly Twitter) early on Friday, 24 July 2026, the lady clapped back at people who try to pressure women with age.
In the video, she responds to a comment that said something like “You are over 40 years madam, we know the kind of men…” She looks straight at the camera and speaks her mind clearly. Watch Video Here ➜
She says: “I’m over 40 years old, and I don’t want to get married. I’m not a woman men can threaten with age. I’m not waiting for any man to choose me. I choose the man I want, even if I’m 100 years old, because men are too easy to find. Besides, I cannot live under a man’s roof. I cannot be bought or acquired by a man. Men look for women they can control when they’re ready to settle down, and I’m not that kind of woman.”
The video was shared by X user @General_Somto around 5:12 a.m. GMT on 24 July 2026. No exact city or state in Nigeria is mentioned in the clip or the posts. The woman is speaking from what looks like a simple room at home.
The clip has already drawn many comments from Nigerians online. Some people support her. One user wrote that it is her life and her choice. Another person said men should mind their business and stop forecasting women’s futures.
But many others disagreed sharply. One commenter said the talk sounds like someone trying to make peace with how life turned out, not a decision she made from the beginning. Another person wrote: “The pain behind the smile.” Some mocked her and said she should first fix other things about herself. A few users claimed it shows struggle or that she has “lost it.”
