Ghana has successfully completed its three-year economic reform programme under the International Monetary Fund (IMF), unlocking a final disbursement of $371 million.

The completion of the bailout programme marks a major milestone in the country’s efforts to restore macroeconomic stability following a severe economic crisis that led to soaring inflation, a weakening currency and mounting public debt.

The latest disbursement brings Ghana’s total receipts under the IMF support programme to about $3 billion, providing crucial budget support as the government continues implementing fiscal and structural reforms.

The IMF said Ghana had made strong progress in stabilising its economy through improved fiscal discipline, debt restructuring and measures aimed at strengthening public finances.

Despite the achievement, the Fund noted that Ghana must sustain reforms to preserve economic gains, reduce debt vulnerabilities and promote inclusive growth.

The government is also expected to continue working on domestic revenue mobilisation and prudent public spending as it transitions beyond the bailout programme.
