Edo set for Olympic Day Run As Sports Commission Boss Urges Active Participation In Sports

As Edo State gets prepared to celebrate Olympic Day on Saturday,July 4’2026, the Executive chairman, Edo State Sports Commission Hon Amadin Desmond Enabulele has urged citizens of the state to keep themselves active and embrace sports as part of their culture.

The Edo sports commission boss noted that sports guarantee activeness and physical wellbeing.

He called on all staff and various sports association in Edo State Sports Commission as well as Edo residents to come out enmas on Saturday to a party of the celebration.

“Let’s assemble and join the rest of the world in participating in  activities that promote core Olympic values; excellence, friendship, and respect. “

He  encourages athletes, coaches and staff to remain physically active for at least 20 minutes daily to keep them active.” He said.

This Year’s Olympic Day Run with the global theme “Let’s Move”  will be celebrated in Benin City on Saturday, beginning from 7:00 AM

In a circular signed by the Assistant Director of Sports,Edo State Sports Commission on behalf of the functioning Permanent Secretary of the Commission Mrs A.P. Efe- Amenze, staff and members of all the sports associations including other expected participants are expected to be at the main bowl of the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium before 7.00 AM as the deputy governor of Edo State Rt Hon Dennis Idahosa is expected to perform the flag off by 7:30 AM.

The Olympic Day Run activities are scheduled to begin at the Samuel Ogbemudia as  participants are expected to run through stadium road, Akenzua road through Ring Road and Ekehuan road and return to the stadium through Zabayor street. Certificate of participation will be issued to participants at the end of the event.

Olympic Day is an annual global celebration of sport that promotes healthy and active lifestyles. It takes place on 23 of June, to commemorate the founding of the International Olympic Committee in 1894 – the start of the modern Olympic Games.
