Ebonyi NDC Deputy Chairman, Secretary, Others Defect to PDP

The Deputy Chairman of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Mr. Okechukwu Idenyi, alongside the party’s secretary and several members, have defected to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ebonyi State ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The defectors said their move was driven by a commitment to strengthen the opposition and promote inclusive governance in Ebonyi State and across Nigeria.

They were formally received into the PDP on Saturday during a political rally held in Isu Community, Onicha Local Government Area of the state.

Speaking at the event, the Ebonyi State Chairman of the PDP, Mr. Chukwuma Igwe, described the defection as a significant boost to the party’s growing influence ahead of the next election cycle.

According to him, the arrival of the former NDC leaders would reinforce the PDP’s grassroots structure and improve its chances in the 2027 polls.

“We assure the defectors of equal opportunities within the party. We urge you to work collectively with existing members to advance the party’s objectives and provide a credible alternative for the people of Ebonyi in 2027,” Igwe said.

Speaking on behalf of the defectors, former NDC Secretary, Mr. Solomon Adum, said the decision followed extensive consultations with supporters and political associates.

He explained that they joined the PDP because of their confidence in the party’s vision for democratic governance, national unity and sustainable development.

According to Adum, the group is committed to working with the PDP leadership to strengthen the party’s grassroots support across Ebonyi State ahead of future political activities.

Also speaking at the rally, the PDP’s candidate for the Ohaozara/Onicha/Ivo Federal Constituency in the last House of Representatives election, Mr. Felix Igboke, welcomed the new members, describing the PDP as the most formidable political platform in the state.

He urged both old and new members to work together to secure victory for the party in the 2027 general elections.

“The 2027 elections are the time to work together to ensure that we win.

“I welcome all the defectors to the party, and I believe we will win come 2027. Our party is a moving train,” Igboke said.
