A consultant cardiac surgeon, Prof (Dr) Martin Aghaji who was arrested in Enugu and flown to Lagos by operatives of the Department of State Services(DSS) has been released.
This was confirmed in a statement signed by Dr Babajide Kehinde Saheed, Chairman, NMA Lagos State
The Lagos NMA statement titled: UPDATE ON THE ARREST, DETENTION AND RELEASE OF PROF (DR) MARTIN AGHAJI BY DSS AGENTS, said, ‘Prof (Dr) Martin Aghaji, consultant cardiac surgeon, was arrested on Thursday, 2nd July 2026 by the DSS in his house in Enugu and flown to the DSS Lagos State Command for alleged economic crime.
“The Director of Lagos State DSS Command informed NMA Lagos State about the arrest of Prof Martin Aghaji and invited NMA to the Lagos Command in view of the good relationship between Lagos State DSS Command and NMA Lagos State.
“On behalf of the Prof (Dr.) Afekhide Omoti- led NOC, a team comprising of Prof (Dr) Olayinka Atilola (National Publicity Secretary), Dr Babajide Saheed (Chairman NMA Lagos), Dr Bisoye Akinsulire (Publicity Secretary, NMA Lagos) and Dr Placid Ajachukwu (Rep of NMA Enugu State) were at the Lagos office of the DSS yesterday, Sunday, 5th July 2026.
“Prof (Dr) Martin Aghaji was released on bail yesterday to the NMA team on liberal terms without any pressure, perfected by the team.
“The details of the alleged economic crime offence and other information remains classified to protect ongoing investigaions.”
