Nigerian content creator Ademola Abiodun, popularly known as DJ Chicken, has been released from the Kirikiri Correctional Centre after fulfilling the bail conditions imposed by a Lagos Magistrate’s Court.
His lawyer, Rotimi Stephen, confirmed the development on Tuesday in a brief post shared through his Instagram Story.
“All glory to God. DJ Chicken,” the lawyer wrote.
Human rights activist and SaharaReporters publisher Omoyele Sowore also announced the content creator’s release, saying he had reunited with members of his family, friends and other loved ones.
“DJ Chicken, real name Ademola Abiodun, is free and reunited with his family, friends, and loved ones,” Sowore said.
He maintained that no individual should be subjected to oppression while others remain silent, particularly where powerful interests are involved.
“An injury to one is an injury to all. We will continue to stand up for the weak and fight against injustice wherever it occurs,” he added.
A livestream shared on Instagram shortly after the release showed DJ Chicken inside a vehicle, smiling and interacting with his followers.
His lawyer was also seen inside the vehicle during the broadcast, clips of which were later circulated across social-media platforms. The release was also reflected in contemporaneous social-media posts and news updates.
DJ Chicken had been remanded at the Kirikiri Correctional Centre after he was arraigned before Magistrate M.F. Onamusi at a Magistrate’s Court sitting in the Ogba area of Lagos State.
He is facing three counts bordering on an alleged threat to kill, transmitting an offensive or menacing message through a computer network and conduct likely to cause a breach of the peace.
The charges arose from a viral video in which the content creator, while speaking about the 2027 presidential election, allegedly threatened Seyi Tinubu, son of President Bola Tinubu, should the President win re-election.
The prosecution alleged that the video was posted on DJ Chicken’s Facebook and Instagram accounts and was intended to reach Seyi Tinubu and create fear.
The first count was brought under Section 232 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State 2015, while the second was filed under Section 24 of the Cybercrimes (Prohibition, Prevention, etc.) Act 2015.
The third count alleged that his conduct was likely to breach public peace and was intended to intimidate or embarrass Seyi Tinubu, contrary to Section 168(d) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State.
Following criticism of the video, DJ Chicken published another recording in which he withdrew the statement and apologised.
He described the remarks as a joke intended to attract public attention and increase engagement with his online content, insisting that he had no genuine intention of harming the President’s son.
Despite the retraction, he was arrested and subsequently brought before the court.
DJ Chicken pleaded not guilty to all three counts when the charges were read to him.
Magistrate Onamusi admitted him to bail in the sum of ₦1 million with two sureties in the same amount but ordered that he remain in custody until the conditions were fulfilled.
