Chairman of the Imole Youth Campaign Mobilisation Committee, David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has paid a courtesy visit to the Inspector-General of Police, Tunji Disu, as political activities gather momentum ahead of the forthcoming Osun State governorship election.
The visit was disclosed in a statement issued by the campaign committee, which said the engagement formed part of efforts to support measures aimed at maintaining peace and security before and during the election.
According to the statement, the meeting followed recent engagements involving the Osun State Government and security agencies as preparations continue for the poll.
The campaign said Governor Ademola Adeleke remained committed to ensuring that the election is conducted in a peaceful atmosphere, adding that violence, political thuggery and intimidation should not be allowed to disrupt the democratic process.
It stated that security remained a priority as the state moves closer to the election, noting that residents should be able to participate freely in the electoral process.
The statement also expressed support for ongoing efforts by security agencies to prevent any breakdown of law and order during the election period.
The statement said, “The commitment from the police command to clamp down on troublemakers reinforces our shared goal, a secure environment where every citizen can exercise their franchise freely without fear.”
It urged residents to cooperate with security agencies by remaining law-abiding and reporting activities capable of threatening public peace.
The committee maintained that collaboration among citizens, political stakeholders and security agencies would be necessary to sustain a peaceful environment throughout the election period.
Although the statement confirmed that Davido met the Inspector-General of Police, it did not disclose the specific issues discussed during the visit or whether any resolutions were reached.
Neither the Nigeria Police Force nor the Office of the Inspector-General had, as of the time of filing this report, issued an official statement on the meeting.
