The Indian Embassy in Bangkok has issued a fresh travel advisory for Indian nationals planning to visit Thailand. The advisory, released on July 2, reminds travellers to follow the latest entry rules carefully after Thailand ended its visa-free entry programme for Indian passport holders.

Thailand continues to be one of the most popular international destinations for Indian tourists. However, travellers are now being asked to ensure that all required documents are ready before they begin their journey to avoid any problems at immigration.

Why has the Indian Embassy issued a fresh travel advisory for Thailand?

According to the embassy, every traveller must carry a valid passport with at least six months’ validity from the date of arrival in Thailand. Visitors should also have confirmed return flight tickets, hotel booking confirmations and a clear travel itinerary.

Another important requirement is the Thailand Digital Arrival Card (TDAC). Travellers must complete the online TDAC form within 72 hours before reaching Thailand. After submitting the form through Thailand’s immigration portal, they will receive a QR code that may be asked for during immigration checks.

Why do some travellers need to carry around Rs 58,000 in cash?

The embassy has also advised Indian nationals to obtain the correct visa depending on the purpose of their visit. Tourists travelling under the Visa Waiver or Visa on Arrival (VOA) system have been asked to carry at least 20,000 Thai Baht, which is around Rs 58,000, in cash. Immigration officials may ask visitors to show proof of sufficient funds before allowing entry into the country.

The advisory also includes a warning for people travelling to Thailand for work. Those who have already received a job offer should not use the Visa Waiver or Visa on Arrival facility. Instead, they should apply for the appropriate employment visa before travelling, as entering Thailand on a tourist status for work may violate local immigration laws.

For passengers transiting through Thailand, the embassy has advised carrying all documents related to their final destination, including onward flight tickets and any required visas.

The Indian Embassy has also shared an 11-point checklist covering passport validity, return tickets, hotel bookings, travel plans, TDAC registration, visa requirements, cash requirements, and immigration documents. It has advised all Indian travellers to verify their documents before departure to ensure a smooth and hassle-free entry into Thailand.
