A group of aggrieved youths in Zamfara state have blocked a major highway in the state in protest over insecurity.

The youths of Gummi community had on Friday set barricade across the road as they decried the spate of insecurity in the state.

Video of the protest shared on X showed the youths, armed with cutlass, swords, and sticks, setting up a bonfire along the road.

One of the protesters declared security and welfare as rights Nigerians are entitled to as contained in the constitution.

“No retreat, no surrender. We must fight for our right.” He said.

Another protester held up a banner which cited the Section 14 (2) (b) that defined the government’s responsibility on ensuring that the security and welfare of Nigerians are prioritised.

“1999 Constitution provided that security and welfare of the people shall be the primary purpose of the government of Nigeria.” The inscription on the placard read.
