FCT Minister Nyesom Wike took a swipe at NDC presidential candidate Peter Obi during his monthly press briefing in Abuja on Monday, suggesting that Obi shies away from difficult political battles and only pursues situations where victory is guaranteed.
Wike used himself as a contrasting example, pointing to his decision to remain in the PDP through its internal turbulence as evidence of what genuine political courage looks like.
However, the attack appeared to backfire on social media, as Obi’s supporters turned Wike’s criticism into humorous memes, highlighting that the worst thing his opponents could call him was someone who avoids trouble notably, not a corrupt politician.
The back-and-forth has added fresh energy to conversations about what qualities Nigerians should look for in a leader as the 2027 elections draw closer.
