A Brazilian investigative journalist has claimed that an alleged plot to assassinate Pakistan’s Field Marshal Asim Munir was uncovered before it could be carried out. According to the claim, Pakistan’s intelligence agency became aware of the alleged plan and warned Israel through diplomatic channels. However, the allegation remains unverified, and no evidence has been presented to support it.
Journalist Claims Mossad Planned Attack
Brazilian investigative journalist and geopolitical analyst Pepe Escobar has claimed, citing a Pakistani source, that Israel’s intelligence agency Mossad had allegedly planned to target Pakistan’s Field Marshal Asim Munir and the country’s delegation during proposed talks involving the United States and Iran in Geneva.
According to Escobar, the alleged plan was aimed at disrupting diplomatic efforts in which Pakistan was attempting to play a mediating role between Washington and Tehran. The claim quickly spread among Pakistani journalists, many of whom rejected it outright.
ISI Allegedly Received Advance Intelligence
Escobar claimed that Pakistan’s intelligence agency, the ISI, received highly credible information about the alleged assassination plot before it could be executed.
He said the intelligence suggested that Mossad, acting on the orders of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, was planning to target Munir and the entire Pakistani delegation.
Pakistan Reportedly Sent a Warning Through Mediators
According to Escobar, Pakistan had no direct diplomatic ties with Israel, so it allegedly used a third party, possibly Oman, to convey a warning. He claimed Pakistan sent a strong message that any attack on its delegation would have serious consequences. Escobar said this information came from a trusted Pakistani source.
However, he did not provide any evidence to support the allegation, and the claim has not been independently verified.
No Official Response From Israel or Pakistan
Neither the Israeli government nor the Pakistani government has commented on Escobar’s claims.
There is also no independent confirmation that such a plot existed, and no official documents or intelligence reports have been made public.
Asim Munir is currently considered the most powerful figure in Pakistan, making any alleged plot against him highly significant. However, until official evidence or confirmation emerges, the claims remain unverified and should be treated with caution.
