In a major diplomatic development, US President Donald Trump and Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian have formally signed a peace agreement aimed at ending months of conflict in the Middle East.
The agreement was signed on Wednesday, marking a significant step toward restoring stability in the region after prolonged military tensions between the two countries.
Deal signed at Versailles after G7 Summit
President Trump signed the memorandum of understanding during a dinner hosted by French President Emmanuel Macron at the Palace of Versailles following the G7 summit.
Just before signing the document, Trump addressed those present and said, ‘This was not easy – that I can tell you’.
After signing the agreement, he briefly displayed the document to guests. A video from the event showed Macron, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio and other attendees applauding the moment.

Speaking to reporters after leaving the palace, Trump said, ‘Just signed it.’
Meanwhile, the Iranian Embassy in India shared photographs of President Pezeshkian holding the signed agreement.
Key provisions of the 14-point agreement
The 14-point accord calls for an immediate halt to military operations and commits both nations to working toward a comprehensive final agreement within the next 60 days.

The deal also outlines several confidence-building measures, including:
- Immediate suspension of military activities, including operations linked to Lebanon.
- Reopening of commercial shipping routes through the Strait of Hormuz.
- Removal of the US naval blockade.
- Gradual easing of sanctions imposed on Iran.
- Release of frozen Iranian financial assets.
- A US-supported economic development package for Iran valued at more than USD 300 billion.
The memorandum further states that Iran has reaffirmed its commitment not to develop or acquire nuclear weapons.
Future discussions on Iran’s enriched uranium stockpiles are expected to take place under the supervision of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).
Iran says focus shifts to implementation
Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baqaei confirmed the signing of the agreement and emphasized that attention must now turn to implementing its provisions.

He said, ‘The text of the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding was finalised with the signatures of the presidents — now it is time to test the implementation of the agreement.’
Iran’s chief negotiator, Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, described the talks as negotiations conducted from a position of confidence and strength.
According to him, ‘The difference between the current negotiations and previous periods is that today, this banner of battlefield victory, which both enemies and friends have acknowledged, serves as the backing for negotiations. Every war that ends in victory, if it does not ultimately lead to a legal and political document and those victories are not recorded, will bring no benefit.’
International leaders welcome the agreement
French President Emmanuel Macron welcomed the signing and described it as an important move toward regional stability.
In a post on X, Macron wrote, ‘President Trump signed tonight at Versailles the agreement between Iran and the United States. This agreement paves the way for lasting peace and allows the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz. It is an important step in the right direction for our compatriots that will soon enable a decrease in energy prices.’
Pakistan also welcomes the peace deal
Pakistan, which briefly played a mediating role during the conflict, also welcomed the agreement.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said the accord reflected the willingness of both sides to resolve their differences through diplomacy.

In a post on X, he stated that the agreement ‘demonstrates the commitment of both sides to a diplomatic resolution of the conflict’.
Sharif added, ‘Islamabad MoU shall enter into force with immediate effect and as a first step, the Islamic Republic of Iran will instantly reopen the Strait of Hormuz and the United States of America will immediately lift the naval blockade.’
He further praised Trump, saying his ‘steadfast commitment to diplomacy and preference for peaceful resolution have once again helped end a conflict that could have led to devastating consequences for the region and beyond’.
