THE Oyo State Road Traffic Management Authority (OYRTMA) has trained senior officers and other ranks on intelligence gathering, vigilance, and public safety to strengthen security across the state.
The one-day training with the theme “Eyes on the Road – Intelligence in Action”, was held on Wednesday at the Oyo State House of Chiefs, Secretariat, Ibadan.
It focused on equipping traffic officers to support security agencies through better observation, surveillance, and quick reporting of suspicious activities.
The OYRTMA Chairman, retired Maj. Adekoya Adesagba, said officers have duties that go beyond traffic control and road decongestion.
Adesagba said that the officers daily contact with thousands of motorists puts them in a strategic position to help prevent crime.
He cited recent security incidents in Ogbomoso and Ibadan, including banditry and kidnapping, and urged officers to stay alert on duty.
The OYRTMA chairman also reminded the personnel of the state government’s restriction of movement on commercial motorcycles and tricycles between 10:30 p.m. and 5:30 a.m., a policy introduced to curb robbery, kidnapping, and banditry.
The chairman said that Authority works closely with the Nigeria Police Force, Operation Burst, and Amotekun Corps to protect lives and property.
He charged officers to watch for suspicious behavior, unusual passenger interactions, unregistered vehicles, and suspicious luggage and advised them to report threats to security agencies instead of confronting suspects directly.
Adesagba also encouraged a more professional and educative approach when dealing with road users.(NAN)
