President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has led a wave of tributes to Mr. Idowu Ajanaku, Ondo State Commissioner for Information and Orientation as he clocks 60 today.
In a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Mr. Bayo Onanuga, President Tinubu congratulated Ajanaku on his diamond jubilee, describing him as a courageous and vibrant media practitioner who has remained dedicated to the ideals of journalism.
The President acknowledged Ajanaku’s contributions to democratic governance, particularly recalling his “valiant efforts against tyranny” during the military era.
Tinubu further lauded Ajanaku’s role in advancing the progressive cause in the South-West, highlighting his service as Senior Special Assistant on Public Affairs and later as Special Adviser on Information and Strategy in Lagos State.
He also noted Ajanaku’s role in managing media campaigns, including his involvement in the political trajectory of the late former Ondo State Governor, Rotimi Akeredolu.
According to the President, Ajanaku has consistently deployed his vast media experience to promote government policies and bridge communication gaps between leadership and citizens.
He prayed for his continued good health and greater accomplishments
Also, elder statesman and former Interim National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Chief Bisi Akande, described Ajanaku as a man of integrity who has used journalism as a tool for societal development.
“You have served with dignity and integrity, using your profession to shape public discourse and uplift society,” Akande stated.
Similarly, former Ekiti State Governor, Dr. Kayode Fayemi, praised Ajanaku for his fearless contributions to Nigeria’s democratic struggle.
He recalled his role at The Guardian during the NADECO era, particularly in the agitation for the actualisation of the June 12, 1993 presidential election won by the late Chief M.K.O. Abiola.
Fayemi also commended Ajanaku’s strategic media support during the legal and political battles that shaped the progressive movement in Ekiti State.
In his remarks, the Secretary-General of Afenifere and a key NADECO figure, Chief Ayo Opadokun, applauded Ajanaku’s lifelong dedication to democratic ideals and progressive politics.
Adding an international perspective, APC-USA National Leader, Mr. Dele Alade, reflected on Ajanaku’s contributions to the global outreach of the party.
He recalled their joint participation in Egbe Omo Yoruba conferences in the United States, where Ajanaku utilised his media expertise to promote the progressive agenda.
Alade further noted that Ajanaku was part of the delegation that represented Tinubu at the inauguration of the APC-USA chapter in Virginia in 2014, describing his role as pivotal during the formative years of the party.
The tributes collectively underscored Ajanaku’s enduring influence in journalism, governance and the democratic evolution of Nigeria.
