A tragic train derailment accident has reportedly claimed the lives of three in Agbor, Delta State.
The incident involving the Warri-Itakpe Train Service (WITS) occurred on Monday afternoon when four coaches reportedly derailed from the train along the railtrack.
The derailed coaches tragically overturned, leaving several occupants injured with three killed.
Graphic video of the accident sahred on X showed one of the deceased passengers lying along the railtrack.
While confirming the incident in a statement issued by its Managing Director, Dr. Kayode Opeifa, the Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) is however yet to confirm number of casualties in the accident.
The cause of the derailment is also yet to be confirmed by the corporation.
NRC however assured that more details on the accident will be released soon.
The statement read; “The Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) confirms that an incident involving the Warri-Itakpe Train Service (WITS) occurred today.
“Emergency response teams and relevant authorities are currently at the scene attending to the situation and providing necessary assistance.
“The Corporation is closely monitoring developments and a detailed statement will be issued as soon as more information becomes available.
“The NRC urges the public to remain calm and rely only on official channels for verified updates.” The statement read.
