Super Falcons defender, Ashleigh Plumptre, has cried out over impersonation by a fake Facebook account alleging her outrage against the Nigeria Football Federation for omitting her from the Nigerian female national team’s squad list for the 2026 Women African Cup of Nations.
The verified Facebook account had in a post shared on Monday and attributed to the United Kingdom-born footballer accused some NFF officials excluding her from the squad list after refusing to agree with some undisclosed demands allegedly made by the officials.
Plumptre was alleged to expressed readiness to withdraw from the team rather than accepting the demand of the officials.
“I have just been excluded from the squad for the upcoming WAFCON by certain corrupt officials who demanded something from me that I could not and would never offer.
“If my talent, hard work, dedication and commitment to representing my country are not enough to earn my place in the team, then perhaps it is time for me to step back.
“This hurts deeply because wearing the national colours has always been an honour I never took for granted. But I can never go against my values just to earn a call-up. Never.” .... from the fake account had read.
Reacting in a post shared on her X handle on Tuesday, Plumptre denied ownership of the account, stressing that she never made such statement which had widely been reported by some media outlets.
The footballer who is currently recovering from an injury urged members of the public to report the account.
“Please report and block these fake Facebook accounts.
“They’re running riot for real. I don’t even use Facebook” She wrote.
Plumptre further reposted an interview she made during the title winning 2025 WAFCON campaign where she publicly denied ownership of the account.
She decried the continued impersonation as she urged fans not to follow any Facebook account linked to her.
“One year later, same things happening. Don’t follow any Facebook account for real.” The defender wrote.
The fake account had further been reported by Nigerian sports influencers like Pooja Media and Ademola TV who warned members of the public against falling victim of the fake account allegedly used in defrauding unsuspecting Nigerians.
“Ashleigh Plumptre is not on Facebook. Fake accounts are using her name to promise people money and scam innocent fans. Please stay alert and help report them.” Ademola TV wrote.
Pooja, on his part, called out the impersonators who, according to him had also created similar account for Plumptre national teammate, Jennifer Echegini.
“From Jennifer Echegini to Ashleigh Plumptre, someone has been creating Fake Facebook accounts in their names to push his/her selfish agendas.
“If you want to face NFF, use your personal platforms & stop impersonating the innocent ladies. The is Facebook post/account attached is FAKE” He wrote.
