More than three years after Takeoff was killed, his parents are now battling in court over who should receive money from a wrongful death settlement.
According to legal documents obtained by TMZ, Titania Davenport, the rapper’s mother, says she was the steady parent in his life, while his father, Kenneth Ball, says he remains entitled to half of the settlement tied to Takeoff’s death.
Davenport says she raised Takeoff, born Kirsnick Khari Ball, as a single parent from birth and shared a “close, loving and nurturing relationship” with him throughout his life. She says she carried nearly all of the financial responsibility until he became an adult, then continued helping him as he pursued music.
After Takeoff found success with Migos, Davenport says her son took care of her, paying “most if not all of her expenses.” She claims he bought her a home and cars and paid for her clothing, food, living expenses, and utilities.
In the same filing, Davenport says Ball was “barely present” and provided “negligible financial support and effectively no emotional support to his son.” Ball argues he should receive half of the money despite any absence and says Texas should handle the dispute. Davenport wants the issue decided in Georgia, where probate proceedings were filed.
Takeoff was fatally shot outside a Houston bowling alley on Nov. 1, 2022. Patrick Xavier Clark has been charged with murder. His attorney has said, “He maintains his innocence.”
