THE Chairman of Alimosho Local Government, Mr Johnson Akinpelu, on Saturday seized traders’ goods and locked shops to enforce the monthly environmental sanitation.
The chairman also ordered the arrest ofcommercial drivers conveying passengers during the sanitation restriction period.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that items confiscated during the enforcement included alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks as well as sachets of bitters displayed for sale by roadside traders.
Akinpelu, who monitored compliance in the Akowonjo area, said the enforcement was aimed at ensuring strict adherence to the Lagos State Government’s monthly environmental sanitation directive.
He warned that the exercise would be sustained, adding that anyone who violated the sanitation order would face sanctions.
“Enforcement will continue every month, and anyone who disregards the sanitation directive will face consequences, including seizure of goods, closure of shops and possible prosecution,” he said.
The chairman urged residents, traders and transport operators to cooperate with authorities by complying with the sanitation exercise, describing environmental cleanliness as a shared responsibility.
Also speaking, the Head of the Environmental Health Department, Mrs Elizabeth Odu, urged residents to keep their surroundings clean and dispose of household waste through approved refuse compactors.
According to her, proper waste disposal and active participation in the monthly sanitation exercise are essential to reducing health risks and promoting a cleaner environment.
“Our goal is to safeguard public health, and residents must embrace the monthly exercise to reduce health risks while promoting environmental cleanliness across Lagos State,” Odu said. (NAN)
