The Nigeria Police Force New Media Officer, Aliyu Giwa, has lamented over the death of his colleagues in Yobe State.
Giwa disclosed that 17 officers, including his friend and uncle, were killed by insurgents in the state last month.
The police’s online media officer recounted being emotionally broken when asked to write tribute to friend.
“This month has taken a lot from me. 17 officers lost in Yobe. My friend Mike gone. My uncle gone.
“Then I was asked to write a tribute to Mike, and I found myself staring at a blank page.
‘How do you find words for someone whose absence has left such a silence?
“Some days, all you can do is keep going.” Giwa wrote.
According to reports, the 17 police officers were killed during a terrorist attack on the Nigerian Army Special Forces School, Buni Yadi, Gujba Local Government Area of Yobe State, in the early hours of 8th May, 2026.
The officers, who were undergoing specialized operational training at the institution, lost their lives when terrorists launched a coordinated attack on the facility from multiple directions at about 0115hrs.
Several gallant personnel of the Nigerian Army also made the ultimate sacrifice while courageously repelling the attack.
