The Oyo State Police Command has dismissed as false a viral video showing about 300 Lakurawa terrorists had moved into Oyo State.
The Oyo State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Ayanlade Olayinka, who made this known via a statement issued on Sunday, assured residents that there is no security threat linked to the allegation.
Olayinka said a comprehensive forensic analysis and intelligence-based verification conducted by the command revealed that the video was misleading and deliberately designed to create fear and panic among the public.
Olayinka noted that findings from the forensic review showed that the voice recording attached to the video, allegedly attributed to one Alhaji Muftau from Kontagora, was linked to earlier false claims that had already been investigated and debunked.
He stated that intelligence gathered from operatives deployed across border communities, backed by strengthened early warning and response mechanisms, found no evidence to support the claims made in the video.
The police spokesman added that a joint verification exercise carried out in collaboration with neighbouring police commands confirmed that the information was entirely unfounded.

“Investigations also established that the video currently in circulation was neither recorded in Nigeria nor is it a recent occurrence, further reinforcing the conclusion that the content was designed to mislead the public,” Olayinka stated.
Olayinka also warned individuals and groups against spreading false information capable of undermining public peace and security, stressing that anyone found disseminating such content would be investigated and prosecuted in accordance with the law.
The police spokesman reaffirmed the command’s commitment to protecting lives and property across Oyo State, noting that the command would continue to deploy all lawful measures to sustain the security gains recorded in recent times.
“Accordingly, members of the public are advised to rely only on verified and official channels for security-related information and to remain calm and law-abiding,” he added.
