The Lagos State Police Command has arrested a 21-year-old suspected armed robber, identified as Samson Onilewaji, after he was found in possession of a suspected human body part, firearms, and other items believed to have been stolen from robbery victims.
This is contained in a statement released on Friday by the Command’s Spokesperson, SP Abimbola Adebisi.
The suspect was apprehended during a routine stop-and-search operation along the Lekki-Epe Expressway. According to the police, officers intercepted an unregistered commercial shuttle bus carrying six occupants and conducted a thorough search of the vehicle and its passengers.
During the operation, Onilewaji was allegedly found with a suspected human right hand, two locally made pistols, one live cartridge, two axes, a Point of Sale (POS) terminal machine, and five ATM cards.
The suspect reportedly confessed to robbing three individuals and dispossessing them of their valuables, including the recovered POS machine and ATM cards. Police authorities said efforts are ongoing to identify and contact the victims so that the recovered items can be returned to their rightful owners.
Investigators are also working to determine the identity of the owner of the suspected human hand, as well as the circumstances surrounding its possession and intended use. The police added that efforts have been intensified to track down and arrest other individuals who may be connected to the suspect.
The Lagos State Police Command said the suspect will be charged to court upon the conclusion of investigations.
Reacting to the development, the Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command, CP Tijani Olaiwola Fatai, reaffirmed the command’s commitment to tackling violent crimes and other criminal activities across the state.
He urged residents to remain vigilant and continue to provide timely and credible information to security agencies to aid crime prevention and enhance public safety.
