Plan was to kill Asim Munir in Geneva, journalist makes EXPLOSIVE claim, the task was given to…

A claim made by Brazilian journalist and geopolitical analyst Pepe Escobar about an alleged plot to assassinate Pakistan Army Chief Field Marshal Asim Munir during peace talks in Switzerland has triggered controversy. However, Pakistani journalists and officials have strongly rejected the allegation, saying there is no evidence to support it.

What Did Pepe Escobar Claim?

Speaking on a podcast hosted by political commentator Mario Nawfal, Escobar claimed that Pakistan’s military intelligence received what he described as “highly credible information” about an alleged plan by Israel’s intelligence agency, Mossad, to target Asim Munir and members of the Pakistani delegation during talks in Geneva.

According to Escobar, the alleged plot was linked to negotiations involving the United States, Iran and Pakistan, where Islamabad was reportedly playing a mediating role.

Pakistan’s Alleged Response

Escobar further claimed that Pakistan sent a warning to Israel through diplomatic intermediaries after learning about the alleged threat. He alleged that Pakistan warned Israel against taking any action against its delegation. However, no official evidence has been presented to support these claims.

No Official Confirmation

The allegation has not been independently verified. Neither the Pakistani government nor the Israeli government has confirmed the existence of any assassination plot. There is also no public evidence linking Mossad or Israeli authorities to such a plan.

The claim surfaced shortly after Pakistan participated in diplomatic efforts aimed at easing tensions between the United States and Iran. Field Marshal Asim Munir was reportedly part of Pakistan’s high-level delegation involved in those discussions.

Diplomatic Tensions Between Pakistan and Israel

Pakistan and Israel do not have diplomatic relations, and Pakistan does not officially recognise Israel as a state.

Tensions between the two countries have increased in recent months. Pakistan’s Defence Minister Khawaja Asif has publicly criticised Israel over its military actions in the Middle East, while Israeli officials have questioned Pakistan’s ability to act as a neutral mediator in regional discussions.

Pakistani Journalists Reject the Claim

Several Pakistani journalists and commentators have dismissed Escobar’s allegations as baseless. According to Pakistan-based news platform The Current, multiple journalists said the story was unsupported by facts. Senior journalist Syed Talat Hussain also rejected the claim on social media, stating that there was “not even a shred of truth” in the allegation. He further quoted a senior Pakistani security official who reportedly described the story as “perverse propaganda”.

Investigation and Verification Still Absent

As of now, neither Pakistan’s military nor its government has issued any statement confirming the claim. Israeli authorities have also not publicly responded. With no official confirmation and no evidence presented, the alleged assassination plot remains an unverified claim circulating online.
