Ondo State Governor, Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa, has described the court verdict sentencing four perpetrators of the June 5, 2022 terror attack on St. Francis Catholic Church, Owo, as a victory for justice, the rule of law, and the victims of the tragic incident.
In a statement issued on Wednesday by his Chief Press Secretary, Ebenezer Adeniyan, the governor commended the judiciary and security agencies for securing the conviction and death sentence of the suspects
He noted that the outcome reinforces the resolve of government to confront acts of terror decisively.
Aiyedatiwa said the diligence of the prosecution team, the painstaking efforts of investigators, and the courage demonstrated by the judiciary underscore a firm commitment to ensuring that perpetrators of violence are brought to justice.
“This judgment sends a clear message that those who take innocent lives will face the full weight of the law, no matter how long it takes,” he said.
The governor further lauded the resilience of the people of Owo and the Catholic community, who, despite the trauma of the attack, have remained steadfast and committed to peace.
He reassured residents of the state of his administration’s determination to continue working closely with security agencies to strengthen intelligence gathering, safeguard public spaces, and prevent a recurrence of such tragedy.
While acknowledging that no judgment can restore the lives lost, Aiyedatiwa noted that the verdict offers a measure of closure and renewed hope that justice can prevail.
He also prayed for the repose of the souls of the departed and for divine comfort for their families.
The June 5, 2022 attack on St. Francis Catholic Church in Owo left scores of worshippers dead and many others injured, in one of the most devastating assaults on a place of worship in the state’s history.
