The Oyo Police Command has debunked alleged release of kidnap victims at Igboho town in Oyo State as it held that no kidnap incident was reported at the town.
NPO Reported the arrival of self-acclaimed Yoruba ethnic advocate, Sunday Adeyemo, popularly known as Sunday Igboho, at his hometown on Saturday with released kidnap victims hours after threatening leaders of the Fulani community in the town over the spate of abduction.
Sunday Igboho had issued a two-hour ultimatum to the Fulani leaders to secure the release of the kidnap victims.
His return to the community with the rescued victims had sparked wild jubilations across Igboho town.
Meanwhile, the details of the rescue operation remained sketchy with no information about the kidnappers after the rescue mission.
NPO Reports correspondent on Sunday contacted the Oyo Police Command’s spokesperson, DSP Ayanlade Olayinka, to confirm the development.
Ayanlade, in a telephone conversation with our correspondent, debunked the rescue mission as he claimed that no kidnap incident was reported at Igboho.
Rather, he disclosed that the only recent kidnap case occurred at Igbope town with the victims still in captivity.
“I do not know anybody at Igboho. Nobody was kidnapped at Igboho because it does not happen.
“It does not exist. The only person kidnapped was in Igbope not in Igboho and they have not been rescued.” He said.
Ayanlade said effort is still ongoing to rescue the kidnap victims.
“Police have been doing everything in collaboration with other security agencies.” He added.
