The Obidient Movement has dismissed reports suggesting internal divisions within its ranks, describing such narratives as deliberate attempts to misrepresent what it called the natural evolution of a citizen-driven political movement.
In a statement, the Peter Obi Media Reach (POMR) through its spokesman, Ibrahim Umar, maintained that the movement remains united and committed to the principles championed by Labour Party presidential candidate in the 2023 election, Peter Obi.
According to Umar, what some observers interpret as disunity is, in reality, the organic and decentralised growth of a movement built on shared values rather than rigid political structures.
“The Obidient Movement embodies an idea of governance anchored on accountability and the principles of our principal, Peter Obi. It is not a conventional political organisation operating under a strict hierarchy but a coalition driven by shared values of accountability, economic advancement, systemic fairness and capable leadership,” he said.
He noted that while various groups and supporters across the country may adopt different approaches in pursuing their objectives, they remain united by a common vision of building a better Nigeria.
The spokesman argued that the decentralised nature of the movement has become one of its greatest strengths, insulating it from the influence of individuals or groups seeking to derail its objectives.
“The absence of a central, easily influenced or compromised leadership structure ensures that no individual or subgroup can undermine the aspirations of millions of Nigerians who identify with the movement,” Umar stated.
He stressed that the movement belongs to ordinary Nigerians rather than a select political class, adding that its core mission remains unchanged.
According to him, there is no disagreement within the movement regarding its commitment to promoting accountable leadership and ending what he described as transactional politics.
“The Obidient Movement remains steadfast in its commitment to ending the transactional politics that have held Nigeria captive. There is no division whatsoever regarding our fundamental objectives,” he said.
Umar urged supporters and members of the public to disregard reports of internal crisis, insisting that the movement remains focused on its broader goal of driving political and socio-economic transformation in the country.
He further called on supporters within Nigeria and across the diaspora to remain vigilant and united, describing reports of division as orchestrated distractions aimed at weakening the momentum of the movement.
“The movement is unified, vigilant and singularly focused on achieving the socio-economic liberation of Nigeria,” the statement added.
