An APC chieftain, Joe Igbokwe, has recounted how he narrowly escaped being attacked by a group of youths at the popular Ladipo Market in Lagos State.
Igbokwe disclosed the incident in a video shared on his official Facebook page on Saturday, dismissing reports that he was assaulted during the encounter.
According to him, he had visited the market on Friday to purchase spare parts for his vehicle when some individuals recognised him and began drawing attention to his presence.
He said the situation quickly escalated as more youths gathered around him, prompting him to seek refuge in a friend’s shop while market leaders intervened.
“Yesterday, I went to Ladipo Market to get some spare parts for my vehicle. While searching for the parts, some people started calling my name and pointing at me. I ignored them and continued with what I came to do,” he said.
“After purchasing the parts, I returned to my vehicle to fix it. Suddenly, some youths in the market started gathering and shouting, ‘This is Igbokwe, this is Igbokwe. So you can come to this market?’
“I initially ignored them, but as the crowd kept growing, I decided to move into my friend’s shop. My friend then contacted the market leadership, who stepped in and helped manage the situation.
“When I eventually came out, people were saying different things, but I did not respond. I simply entered my vehicle and drove away.”
Igbokwe also refuted social media reports claiming he was beaten during the incident.
“I woke up this morning and saw posts claiming Joe Igbokwe was beaten. I was not beaten. This is me,” he said.
He expressed hope that such an incident would not happen again and hinted that he would take appropriate action if confronted with a similar situation in the future.
